Cracking cascarones, Fiesta San Antonio 2023 is here! The 10-day celebration of the Alamo City’s rich and diverse cultures takes place from April 20 to 30. Many San Antonian’s celebrate the event by dressing their homes in Mexican culture inspired, festive decorations. Even if you got a late start, here are some easy ideas to get your home fiesta ready – fast.
Puerto de Fiesta
The heart of a Fiesta decorated house is the front door. Fiesta themed wreaths are big, bold and typically feature the vibrant Mexican fiesta color palette. Within the wreaths are details that distinguish one designer from another. Many are decorated with trinkets that pay homage to Mexican culture, like mini pinatas, sombreros, maracas and more. Others are floral themed, with streamers and other colorful decorations to add a unique flair.
A search on Etsy brings up pages of custom Fiesta wreaths. To get them in time for Fiesta, find a vendor who can do overnight or express shipping. At this post, some of the local stores still had wreaths in stock. Do a Google search to find one near you. Some of the more popular San Antonio stores include Fiesta at North Star, Amols’ or the Fiesta Wreath’s Store on Austin Hwy.
The Crowning Touch
Add a welcoming Fiesta accent to your home with garland over your doorway. Some are matched with wreaths, but this isn’t necessary. Get one to suit your style to increase the Fiesta flare. Garlands may not be quite as available as wreaths. Try the Fiesta stores mentioned previously or Etsy. If you have one, your home will be in the upper tier of Fiesta casa style.
Picado’s
If you can’t find Fiesta garland, consider papel picado as a festive substitute. A papel picado is a traditional Mexican decoration with panels of brightly colored plastic or tissue paper. They stand out with assorted intricate designs cut-out by hand. Hang some over the entry door, on your patio, or even inside your home, for mas Fiesta.
Budget Fiesta Décor
Many Fiesta wreaths are in $100 dollar range, and at least twice that amount if you have a double entry door and buy garland. But there are plenty of cost-effective options to show your Fiesta spirit.
Stand out with a Fiesta banner. They hang from a horizontal flagpole and available in lots of designs to avoid the same look as someone else on your block.
Another option is to go quaint with a garden banner. As an accent, put one by the curb or by the front porch. Or use alone for that understated Fiesta touch.
There are many other excellent and inexpensive Fiesta home decorating ideas. It just takes a little time and creativity to get your home in the Fiesta spirit fast. Buy a sturdy storage container and use your decorations for many Fiesta celebrations to come. Happy Fiesta San Antonio!
