Updated homes almost always sell the fastest and for the best price. If you’re thinking of selling soon, keep this in mind when setting your listing price. According to a survey published by The National Association of Realtors (NAR) the following are design styles in and out with buyers.
Curb Appeal
Exterior architecture is costly to modify but if you have a ranch or craftsman style home, the NAR report states these are most popular with buyers right now. The survey found Italianate and modern styles are impressing the least. If you own this type of home, offset initial objections with an updated interior and thoughtful landscaping. A great location also helps buyers adjust to an exterior design that may not be their favorite.
New Looks in Interior Design
For interior design, the latest trends are contrasting takes on style. Cottagecore is in demand with buyers, which typically emphasizes muted, calming colors, incorporating vintage style furniture. Part of the cottagecore vibe is an outdoor space that helps the homeowners connect with nature.
Maximalist is ranked as another current top design. In many ways its opposite of cottagecore. maximalist is about ‘more’ and ‘over the top’ with bold. colors, lots of accessories and textures to create a statement space. Not as popular right now are bohemian or modern interior design.
Outside Matters
First impressions are everything and some homeowners like to make a statement with a front door painted in a bright or bold shade. However, the design survey found it might be best to repaint that door as mid-tone grey and beige now rank as most popular.
An inviting outdoor space attracts more buyers. Updated patio furnishings really make an outdoor space stand out. Invest in some now and enjoy before you sell. The patio furniture may not fit the style of your next home. If so, consider including the furniture with the sale or use it as a bargaining chip. For outdoor features, a fire pit and outdoor structure are most appealing. Fountains and outdoor statues not so much anymore.
