With record-setting heat indexes most of the summer, escaping to Golden, Colorado, for a week was a treat. It got hot the last couple of days of our trip, but at least the mornings and evenings dipped into the upper 60s.
4th of July Tradition
Back home, a wonderful highlight was celebrating Independence Day in the Northwood neighborhood.
The Oak Park/Northwood Neighborhood Association (OPNNA) is a long-time host of their annual 4th of July parade. The 2023 parade was stationed at Northwood Presbyterian Church, and there was a big turnout for this year’s event. OPNNA did a wonderful job organizing a fun gathering for the neighbors.Sponsor Support
I signed up to be a Firecracker Sponsor and luckily set my table up next to the breakfast taco stand. All that food was graciously provided by Taco Palenque. I got to meet a lot of nice neighbors stopping by for some free tacos. HEB also provided bottled water, there was face painting and other fun activities for the kids to do.
Parading the Streets
The highlight is the parade through the Northwood neighborhood. Living in the area, I’ve often driven through or biked through Northwood. Walking the streets at a leisurely pace, waving to the neighbors enjoying the parade on their lawns, offered a new appreciation for this gem.
It’s not surprising that Niche.com named the Northeast Inner Loop, which includes the Northwood and Oak Park neighborhoods, as the best neighborhood in San Antonio. These homes offer distinctive architecture, well-manicured lawns, a great location, and most importantly, friendly neighbors!
